Germany were already assured of a quarter-finals place after winning their first two matches and made 11 changes for the game against Lee Carsley's side.
After just three minutes, England was behind when Ansgar Knauff scored after Jarell Quansah was caught off guard by a ball over the top. He controlled the ball well and hit the ball into the bottom corner. After falling behind, Carsley's team dominated possession, but Germany scored next with a header from Nelson Weiper that got between Jack Hinshelwood and Charlie Cresswell. After excellent work from Omari Hutchinson out wide, England scored in the second half with a goal scored by Alex Scott from close range after his ball into the area was tapped in. England finished second in the group and advances to the quarterfinals, where they will play Spain, winners of group A, on Saturday. The Young Lions pushed forward, but they were unable to score an equalizer. What's the main talking point?
England was in a strong position in the group after scoring four points in their first two games. Carsley made four changes to the side that drew with Slovenia on Sunday and again England dominated the ball but did not cause Germany too many problems.
Although England had possession control and a number of skilled ball players, they lacked the runs in behind the Germany defense to finish their nice buildup play. They take on an impressive Spain side that topped a group that included Italy, and the Young Lions will need to lift their levels if they hope to make the semi-finals.
